The tallest tree in Africa found in Tanzania

Africa‘s tallest tree has been discovered in the Kilimanjaro region, and the government hopes that it will attract more visitors to Mount Kilimanjaro and surrounding areas. The

giant indigenous tree – entandrophragma excelsum – is 81.5 metres tall. It was discovered last year by Dr Andreas Hemp and Dr Claudia Hemp from the University of Bayreuth in Germany.

Its age is estimated at between 500 and 600 years and it was only recently that the tools were availed to measure its exact height. It is the sixth-tallest tree in the world and is likely to keep growing. The tallest tree in the world measures 115.7 metres and located in California.
